Red Rock Canyon
National Conservation Area
This is a scenic region managed by the Bureau of Land Management as part of its National Landscape Conservation System. It spreads across some 300 square miles of beautiful, but rugged, desert and mountainous terrain. Red Rock (as its usually called) is about 15 minutes west of Las Vegas and easily seen from the Strip. It attracts more than a million visitors annually. It features massive reddish sandstone peaks and walls up to 3,000 feet -- ideal for hikers, rock climbers and photographers. Its highest point is 8,154 feet. A 13-mile, one-way loop road offers vehicle access to many of the area's features. A visitors center is conveniently located at the start of the loop road. The Getaway Geezers have made frequent visits to Red Rock.
